4th NATIONAL AWARD
“THE OLIVE OIL FEMALE TASTER”
EXTRA VIRGIN AND VIRGIN OLIVE OIL TASTING COMPETITION
Item 1
The FIDAPA (Italian Federation of Women in Art Professions and Business), section of Alghero, by Sassari CCIAA, sponsored by Alghero Town Council, by ONACO (National Organization of Olive Oil Tasters) and by National Association of Olive Oil Cities, organizes the fourth NATIONAL PRIZE “The olive oil female taster”, the competition is reserved exclusively to extra virgin and virgin olive oil female tasters
Item 2
The competition has the target to favour the cultural development in the olive – oil section, to study in depth the history, the technology of production and especially the organoleptic and nutritional characteristics of the extra virgin olive oil.
Besides it proposes to stir up competition among the participants and to stimulate curiosity among the public and the consumers.
The target of the competition also is to promote the territory, to put to good use the oil typicality produced in this region and olive oil tradition in different production zones as attractive elements and to diffuse the image of the town of Alghero and the whole Sardinia Island.
Item 3 The Organism and promoter board constitute a coordination committee that supervises the organization of the competition, consisting of representatives distributed as follows:

- Agriculture of Sassari
- n.1 Delegate of Alghero Town Council
- n.1 Delegate of ONAOO
- n.1 Delegate of National Association of Olive Oil Cities.
Item 4
The Committee of item 3 is chaired by the President of FIDAPA Alghero section.
The Committee supervises and coordinates all the operations concerning the preparation and progress of the Competition and guarantees respecting of the rules.
The Committee will make use of the sector experts’ help.

Item 5
In the Competition may take part:
1) Women who are registered members in the National List of Expert Technician in the extra virgin and virgin olive oil
2) Women who appreciate the product
Participation in the Competition is free of charge.
Item 6
Anyone interested in the Competition should fill out the application form for adhesion and present it appropriately by the Coordination Committee, to the Competition secretary’s office. The application forms must arrive by Friday April 17th 2009 at 12:00 p.m. (noon); please write on the envelope: “La degustatrice di olio di oliva-Premio Oro di Alghero”.
By the same date and time you may send the application form via fax or fill the form on-line, it is available on the site: www.orodialghero.com
Application forms will be accepted if received by the fixed date, and after a verification of suitability and a communication made by Coordination Committee.
The competitors have to communicate to the Committee via e-mail, telephone or fax in case they decide not to participate in the Competition.
In order to consent a regular Competition development, the Coordination Committee, by its unquestionable assessment, reserves the right to fix a maximum number of participants, adopting a chronological order of application arrival, as a requisite of preference for the admission.
Item 7
A qualified jury, appositely named by the Coordination Committee, compound by technician of sector of proved professionalism and experience, will take care of the predisposition of the Competition test and will precede examining candidate tests. The assessment of the jury will be definitive and unquestionable.
Item 8 The Competition exam will have two parts: a theoretical and a practical one.
Topics of the theoretical part, articulated in questionnaires with multiple choices, will cover topics regarding olive trees and olive oil history, varieties, cultivation, production and transformation techniques, sensorial analysis, legislation and market.
In the practical test, aiming to individuate the participants’ capacity and sensorial attitudes, will the candidates recognize the principal oil defects, state the correct perception intensity, determine different intensities of a sample, assess olive-oil product analysis (Extra-virgin, virgin and “lampante”) and individuate values and characteristic and distinctive oil attributes.
Examinations are fixed for May 2nd 2009 starting at 9:30 in the centre that will be communicated closer to the date.
The time limit is 45 minutes for the theoretical part and 20 minutes for each practical text.
Item 9 At the end of the examinations, the jury will form a pass-list giving points to each candidate: the person who obtains the highest score in both exams will be considered the winner. In case of ex-aequo the winner is person who received higher score in the practical tests.
Item 10
The tasters obtaining highest score will receive prizes: First, second and third classified.
The title “the best female taster” will be given to the first three classified too, i.e. respectively the first, second and third classified.
Besides, a special prize will be assigned to the best non-professional female taster, it will be the non-professional who obtains highest score in the general classification and is not classified in the first three places. A participation certificate will be given to all participants.
Item 11 Official proclamation of the Competition winners and the prize-giving ceremony will take place on the same day as the exam.
The result will be widely published in newspapers, other information channels and on the website www.orodialghero.com
Item 12
The title obtained by the winners may not be utilized: free, or for advertising, promotional nor commercial purposes.
Item 13
The participants in the Competition, by subscribing the application form, declare they have read, understood and do accept these rules.
